SM Entertainment’s veteran solo artists, BoA and Taeyeon, have captured fans’ attention with their decisions regarding their contracts with the agency.<\/p>\n

SM announced on the 12th that, following extensive discussions, BoA would conclude her 25-year tenure with the company on December 31st.<\/p>\n

According to SM, “Debuting at 13 in 2000, BoA has been loved by global music fans as an icon of overseas advancement and ‘Asia’s Star.’ It’s been an honor to accompany her on her remarkable journey.”<\/p>\n

“Although her exclusive contract with us has ended, we support BoA in her future endeavors and challenges, hoping she continues to shine as ‘Asia’s Star,'” they added, encouraging support for her future.<\/p>\n

On the same day, BoA expressed on her personal social media: “I leave without regret, having given and received abundantly. I am grateful for the time shared and will continue to support the shining SM Entertainment. Thank you.”<\/p>\n

Her departure after 25 years positions BoA as a major free agent. However, due to her previous hints about retirement, it’s uncertain whether she’ll start anew with another agency or truly leave the entertainment industry.<\/p>\n

In April 2024, BoA stirred interest by posting, “Once this contract ends, can I retire?” followed by, “My contract runs until December 31, 2025! Until then, I’ll do my best as BoA the artist,” reassuring fans.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Taeyeon announced her contract renewal with SM on the 9th, continuing her 19-year journey with the agency.<\/p>\n

Taeyeon\u2019s public dissatisfaction with SM in the past made the renewal news more striking.<\/p>\n

In April of the previous year, logistical issues led to the cancellation of her Tokyo concert, prompting her to express disappointment on the fan platform ‘Bubble.’<\/p>\n
