A Mexican broadcast has sparked controversy after a guest made derogatory comments about the group BTS and its fandom, ARMY.<\/p>\n
According to official channels of Mexico’s Multimedios’ Canal 6, panelists on the entertainment program ‘Chismorreo’ (Spanish for ‘gossip’), which aired late last month, discussed public reactions to the perceived unfairness surrounding ticket sales for BTS’s world tour in Mexico City.<\/p>\n
After viewing a video report that covered issues such as undisclosed seating arrangements, unclear fee structures, alleged pre-arranged ticket reselling, and included responses from Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum, panelists commented that an increase in ticket prices at popular concerts is to be expected.<\/p>\n
During the discussion, guest Luisa Fernanda remarked, “Even Shakira’s concert in February sold out,” adding, “Despite feeling exploited by expensive ticket prices, people’s judgment is at this level.”<\/p>\n
Another guest, Fabian Lavalle, stated, “If I had a 17-year-old daughter, I would make her do her homework,” and added, “It’s not the time to be crying over a concert by some unknown singer.” This comment, accompanied by images and videos of BTS on the TV screen, led viewers to interpret the ‘unknown singer’ as referring to BTS.<\/p>\n
The host attempted to intervene, stating, “For many kids, seeing BTS live is a dream,” but Fernanda continued with unsubstantiated criticism, claiming, “I bet half of the fans haven’t even finished elementary school, yet they want to attend the concert.”<\/p>\n
While the program is known for sensationalizing entertainment news, local reactions indicated that the guests went ‘too far’ with their comments about BTS and their fans.<\/p>\n
In response, Mexican fans criticized the show for exhibiting educational bias and mocking ‘fandom.’ Many fans, including surgeons and biotechnologists, began showcasing their education and professions.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, BTS is scheduled to perform at the GNP Seguros Stadium in Mexico City on May 7, 9, and 10 as part of their world tour. The stadium has a capacity of 65,000.<\/p>\n
