NCT’s Mark has announced his departure from SM Entertainment and the group, surprising many and increasing interest in other artists who have left the agency.
On April 3, SM Entertainment officially announced the termination of Mark’s contract and his departure from NCT.
The agency stated that Mark’s exclusive contract will conclude on April 8, ending all NCT activities, including those with NCT 127 and NCT DREAM. Following this, NCT 127 will continue with seven members: Johnny, Taeyong, Yuta, Doyoung, Jaehyun, Jungwoo, and Haechan, while NCT Dream will move forward with six: Renjun, Jeno, Haechan, Jaemin, Chenle, and Jisung.
On the same day, Mark shared a lengthy handwritten letter on his account, expressing gratitude and love for his fellow members. He wrote, “I’ve talked a lot with the members about this decision, and everyone supported me. I’m so grateful and sorry that it brings tears to my eyes. I love the members for being on this journey with me.”
He also confessed that making such a significant decision for a new chapter in his life, which could shock and hurt his loving fans, weighs heavily on his mind.
NCT members, however, expressed their sincere feelings about his departure and offered their support. Fans also appear to be responding with encouragement for Mark.
Less than four months into 2026, two of SM’s prominent artists have already departed the company.
Previously, in January, BoA, who had been with SM for 25 years, also left the company.
At that time, SM stated, “After deep discussions over a long period, we agreed to conclude our 25-year journey with BoA on December 31.”
BoA had previously mentioned her contract ending on December 31, 2025, which raised concerns about her sudden retirement. However, she has since established her own agency, Beipal Entertainment, and embarked on a solo journey.
With BoA, a symbol of SM, having left the agency, and now Mark, a key member of NCT, also departing, many are focusing on what activities he will pursue in the future.
