Jennie Makes Cannes Debut as an Actress Alongside “The Idol” Premiere: “Acting, a New Challenge”

BLACKPINK’s Jennie shared her thoughts after making her debut as an actress in “The Idol.”

Jennie stood on the red carpet of the Lumiere Grand Theatre at the Cannes Palais des Festivals in the southern region of France, ahead of the screening of HBO series “The Idol” on the morning of the 23rd at 5 a.m. (local time), which was 10 p.m. on the 22nd.

“The Idol,” the first acting project of Jennie’s life, is a story set in Los Angeles, USA, about the entertainment industry, portraying the love, passion, and music industry of a popular pop star. It gained attention as it was co-produced by The Weeknd.

Jennie had interviews with WWD magazine and a red carpet interview. WWD mentioned, “Jennie seemed to have a sense of nervousness about showcasing her acting at the film festival.”

In the interview, Jennie expressed her feelings about attending the film festival, saying, “It is an honor to be able to come here (Cannes Film Festival) as it is my first step in my acting career.” She also mentioned Sam Levinson, the director of the HBO series “Euphoria” and “The Idol,” saying, “I’ve always liked his work as a director.”

Regarding “The Idol,” Jennie said, “I felt attracted to the content that deals with the music industry and the business that I am part of. It was an opportunity for me to be myself and have courage.” She added, “There was nothing particularly prepared. Director Sam wanted me to just be myself.”

Jennie mentioned that acting felt like a challenge of breaking down barriers and said, “Being on set with Lily-Rose Depp was very comforting. She made me feel relaxed and encouraged me not to be afraid.” She expressed that she received a lot of help from Lily-Rose Depp, who is both a co-star and the daughter of Johnny Depp.

Meanwhile, “The Idol,” scheduled for HBO release on June 4th, premiered as an official out-of-competition selection at the 76th Cannes International Film Festival, where it received a standing ovation for five minutes after its first screening.
