BLACKPINK member and actress Jisoo is returning as the lead in a Netflix production. With the release of the ‘Monthly Boyfriend’ main trailer, her acting skills are once again drawing attention.
The second poster and main trailer for the Netflix series ‘Monthly Boyfriend’ were unveiled on the 19th. ‘Monthly Boyfriend’ is a romantic comedy about Mirae (played by Jisoo), a webtoon PD tired of real life, who subscribes to and experiences dating in a virtual reality simulation.
The main trailer depicts Jisoo’s character, Mirae, stepping into the world of virtual dates, breaking away from her repetitive daily life.
The cast, including Seo Kang-joon, Lee Soo-hyuk, Ong Seong-wu, Lee Jae-wook, Lee Hyun-wook, Kim Young-dae, Park Jae-bum, and Lee Sang-yi, makes brief appearances, completing a dazzling lineup. Jisoo transforms, appearing in various looks, from wearing a dress to sporting a college campus jacket.
Following the trailer’s release, YouTube comments showed anticipation, with remarks such as, “How can you resist a rom-com with such handsome and beautiful stars?” “It seems Jisoo has improved her vocalization; it sounds good,” “Amazing lineup,” “The visual beauty is stunning,” and “Jisoo’s diction seems much better.”
Conversely, concerns were raised, including comments like, “Jisoo’s acting might be crucial,” “Her acting doesn’t seem to improve,” “For content centered around a one-person show, the lead’s acting is critical, but my expectations are low,” and “Her acting is disappointing.” This created an atmosphere of both anticipation and worry.
However, the released video is less than two minutes long. It is too early to judge her acting based solely on a few edited scenes, suggesting opinions may shift after the full series release.
As a BLACKPINK member, Jisoo possesses substantial global fandom and brand power. Her star quality, which can generate significant attention from the casting stage, is undoubtedly a strong point.
However, her evaluations as an actress have been somewhat mixed. In her first lead role in ‘Snowdrop’ and subsequent appearance in ‘Newtopia’, she drew criticism for awkward expressions, vocalization, and emotional delivery. Some viewers have even called her acting “stiff,” and her acting skills have been questioned with each project.
Therefore, ‘Monthly Boyfriend’ holds more significance than simply her next project.
