Director Bong Joon-ho Honored with Prime Minister’s Commendation for Exemplary Tax Payments Amid Tax Controversy

Film director Bong Joon-ho has received a commendation from the Prime Minister, recognizing his contributions to the national treasury through diligent tax payments.

On March 3, the Ministry of Finance and Economy and the National Tax Service announced that they honored 569 individuals for their exemplary tax payments and cooperation with tax administration during the 60th Taxpayers’ Day.

Director Bong Joon-ho accepted the Prime Minister’s Commendation as the CEO of his production company, Offscreen, at the “60th Taxpayers’ Day” ceremony held at COEX in Samseong-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul.

The government recognized that Director Bong Joon-ho has contributed to social development by producing and directing numerous films, enhancing the diversity of Korea’s visual culture, and elevating its cultural and artistic status. He also contributed to national finances through diligent tax payments.

Alongside Director Bong Joon-ho, former national figure skater Kim Yuna and broadcaster Kim Sung-joo, formerly an announcer, were also selected as exemplary taxpayers and received commendations from the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance and Economy.

Director Bong Joon-ho met audiences with his film ‘Mickey 17,’ which was released last February.
