The 68th Grammy Awards took place on the 1st local time at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

This year’s Grammy Awards saw multiple nominations from the K-pop genre.

BLACKPINK’s Rosé was nominated for three awards, including Song of the Year and Record of the Year, for her solo song ‘APT.’ Additionally, the group Huntrix, from the ‘K-Pop Demon Hunters’ project (also known as ‘K-Demon Hunters’), was nominated in three categories, including Song of the Year for ‘Golden.’ The song’s remix also earned a nomination for Best Remixed Recording, and the ‘K-Demon Hunters’ soundtrack was nominated in the Soundtrack category.

HYBE’s global girl group CatsEye was nominated in two categories, including Best New Artist, and, broadening the scope to include Korean music, the musical soundtrack for ‘Maybe Happy Ending,’ which dominated the Tony Awards, also received a nomination.

Notably, Rosé opened the ceremony with Bruno Mars, while CatsEye performed with Olivia Dean, Lola Young, and Alex Warren, heightening expectations for potential wins.

Ultimately, ‘Golden’ won the Best Song Written for Visual Media award, a triumph for songwriters EJAE, Teddy, IDO, and 24.

However, beyond this achievement, the significant barrier remained. Rosé was edged out for Record of the Year by Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s ‘luther,’ and for Song of the Year by Billie Eilish’s ‘WILDFLOWER.’ She also lost the Pop Duo/Group Performance award to Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande’s ‘Defying Gravity.’

CatsEye also fell short, losing Best New Artist to Olivia Dean, and the musical album ‘Maybe Happy Ending’ lost to ‘Buena Vista Social Club’ in the Musical Album category.

Nonetheless, considering K-pop’s prior lack of Grammy wins, ‘Golden’ can be seen as breaking new ground.

With major artists like BTS and BLACKPINK planning comebacks this year, there’s keen anticipation over who might secure a Grammy nomination next year.
