IU and Byeon Woo-seok, stars of ’21st Century Grand Prince’s Wife,’ graced the cover of fashion magazine Elle’s April special edition.
The photoshoot reflected a sweet and lovely wedding scene from their new MBC weekend drama, ’21st Century Grand Prince’s Wife.’
Just as in the drama, where Seong Hee-joo (played by IU) and Grand Prince Lee An (played by Byeon Woo-seok) embark on a contractual marriage, their enchanting chemistry as a spring bride and groom captivates.
In an interview following the photoshoot, IU expressed her affection for her character, Seong Hee-joo, stating, “Hee-joo is such an intriguing character. Her efforts to build a relationship with Grand Prince Lee An are both endearing and at times humorous. Above all, her openness about her desires made her fascinating.”
Byeon Woo-seok shared his perspective on Grand Prince Lee An, saying, “I always prioritize the emotions of the characters I play. Grand Prince Lee An’s heart deeply resonated with me. He’s a man of high status who can’t possess anything, yet he desires happiness. His complex nature was attractive to me.”
The two actors also expressed deep trust in their collaboration.
IU commented, “Woo-seok’s portrayal of Grand Prince Lee An surpassed my imagination. His on-screen persona is so elegant and impressive that the only word that came to mind was ‘beautiful.’ Through open feedback, we’ve developed a strong trust, and Woo-seok has become a truly reliable partner.”
Byeon Woo-seok also spoke fondly of IU, saying, “We often discussed acting seriously, but we also had a lot of fun on set. IU is a wonderfully detailed actress in her character interpretation, providing many learning opportunities. Her down-to-earth and genuine charm made the set comfortable.”
Although their journey begins with a contractual marriage, Seong Hee-joo and Grand Prince Lee An join forces to pursue their shared goals.
Regarding the characters, Byeon Woo-seok stated, “Being on ‘the same side’ means having people who can clearly tell you ‘no,’ and with whom you share an infinite level of trust when your ideas align.”
IU added, “Hee-joo and Grand Prince Lee An clearly need each other, and they are willing to support each other. Their journey, individually and together, promises diverse enjoyment for viewers.”

Meanwhile, ’21st Century Grand Prince’s Wife’ is set in a 21st-century constitutional monarchy in South Korea. It features a chaebol woman with commoner status and the king’s son who possesses nothing, exploring their intertwined destiny and romance. The first episode airs on April 10 at 9:40 PM.
