Singer Jessica is receiving mixed reactions from fans after performing a Girls’ Generation medley 10 years after her departure from the group. Jessica held a solo concert on March 11 at the Arena of Stars in Malaysia.

During the concert, Jessica performed a medley of Girls’ Generation hits, including their debut song “Into the New World” and other popular tracks like “Gee,” “Genie,” “The Boys,” and “Mr.Mr.” This marked the first time Jessica had sung these group songs on stage since her departure. Despite it being her first performance of these songs in a decade, she showcased her still-strong vocal skills and stage presence.

However, some fans reacted coldly, recalling Jessica’s actions when she left, which included making remarks about the other members. Reactions included comments like “She should let go of Girls’ Generation,” “She can sing them, but she should be ready for backlash,” “The fans must be upset,” “Didn’t she leave because she disliked it?” “Her skills are still top-notch,” “Her unique voice is irreplaceable,” “It’s no surprise given her exit wasn’t amicable,” “It feels like a cover stage because she’s been out of the group for so long.”

Jessica, who debuted with Girls’ Generation in 2007, left the group suddenly in September 2014. She moved on from SM Entertainment the following year to join Coridel Entertainment, and has since been active across Asia, excluding Korea, while balancing her fashion brand business.

Further controversy arose with the release of Jessica’s novel “Bright” in August 2022. The novel features a protagonist named Rachel who is ostracized and pushed out of a nine-member group called “Girls Forever” amidst conflicts over a fashion business. This elicited comparisons to Jessica’s own experience and sparked speculation of criticism toward her former group.

In December 2023, Jessica appeared on the Singaporean comedy podcast “The Daily Ketchup,” where she discussed her departure from Girls’ Generation. She stated that while the time was challenging and dark for her, she strives to maintain a positive perspective.

Meanwhile, the remaining members of Girls’ Generation have continued their activities, showing camaraderie on their debut anniversaries without referencing Jessica and maintaining their connection. Domestic fans’ view of Jessica remains frosty amid these divergent paths.
