Figure skating icon Kim Yuna is collaborating with director Shin Woosuk of Dolphin Abduction Group for a special ballet performance.

Kakao Entertainment has announced the launch of the Google campaign ‘Our Queen is back,’ directed by Shin Woosuk.

The special project, featuring figure skating legend Kim Yuna and ballet legend Kang Sookjin, will be released today (the 6th) on Google Korea’s YouTube channel, and on the official Dolphin Abduction Group YouTube channel starting tomorrow, the 7th.

The teaser video, showing Kim Yuna in ballet attire instead of her familiar skates, has already garnered significant attention.

Kim Yuna reinterprets 'Dance of Death' in ballet

‘Our Queen is back’ captures a performance where Kim Yuna reinterprets her legendary short program ‘Dance of Death’ through ballet choreography.

Anticipation is high for Kim Yuna’s transformation into a ballerina and how her acclaimed ‘Dance of Death,’ still revered as legendary, will be reimagined through ballet.

Particular attention is on the collaborative performance Kim Yuna and Korea’s leading ballerina Kang Sookjin will create.

In addition to the main film of Kim Yuna’s ballet performance, various content including the making-of, behind-the-scenes, and five short-form videos featuring episodes before and after Kim Yuna’s performance will be released.

‘Our Queen is back’ is particularly noteworthy as Shin Woosuk’s latest project, given his reputation for producing commercial content that captivates with imaginative concepts and compelling narratives.

Last year, his original content ‘Shin Woosuk’s City Fairy Tale,’ co-produced with Google, including ‘The Christmas Song,’ garnered attention for its remarkable creativity and engaging story.

The project is a strategic collaboration with Google. The reinterpretation of ‘Dance of Death’ into ballet utilized Google Gemini AI, with ballerina Kang Sookjin overseeing and participating throughout the process.

Experts in choreography, stage, and costume design also used Gemini for choreography and movement, as well as stage and ballet costume designs.

During rehearsals, Kim Yuna also extensively analyzed and refined her ballet moves with Gemini, demonstrating how experts across various fields leveraged AI technology for creative expression, rather than simply generating a video with AI.

Director Shin Woosuk expressed, “I made this video hoping that everyone can express their potential without giving up their life’s goals due to money, time, or competition. I hope Kim Yuna’s transformation into a ballerina becomes a special gift for many fans.”
