NCT member Doyoung is offering a meaningful gift to his fans, known as NCTzens, as he enlists in the military.
On the 9th at 6 PM, Doyoung’s new single “Promise” and the music video for the title track “A Late Confession (Promise)” were released.
In June, Doyoung released his second album “Soar,” where he conveyed stories of youth and dreams with his musical sensibility and message. This time, he has prepared the single as an “enlistment gift” for his fans.
The title song “A Late Confession” is an impressive ballad that starts with a minimal piano melody and gradually expands in emotional depth with added strings. It conveys Doyoung’s gratitude towards fans who have consistently supported him, offering a warm and heartfelt appreciation.
The lyrics, “If the season that is you never existed / I would never know the moment flowers bloom / You are the only one for me / I have so much to say / Before it’s too late / I will now tell you everything” express Doyoung’s feelings towards his “beloved” and enhance the song’s meaning with his participation in writing the lyrics.
The included track “Whistle (Feat. Bell of KISS OF LIFE)” is an R&B ballad depicting a moment of exchanging hearts through whistling, with Doyoung and Bell’s vocals harmonizing like a conversation over jazzy guitar melodies, amplifying the lovely excitement.
The music video released along with the single uses a clover pot, a symbolic object between Doyoung and fans, to metaphorically show gratitude and apology. It includes scenes depicting changing seasons, conveying a message of remembrance even during temporary separation, making it a gift entirely for the fans.
Additionally, the video showcases scenes with an analog feel over a lyrical melody, highlighting Doyoung’s pure beauty.
Meanwhile, Doyoung entered the military training camp alongside fellow member Jungwoo on the 8th. Doyoung will serve as active-duty in the army, while Jungwoo joins the military band.
The agency stated, “We ask for your unwavering support and love so that Doyoung and Jungwoo can faithfully perform their military duties and return healthy.”
