This Spring, ‘EX-Bang-Won’ Returns

Many K-pop fans know the term ‘EX-Bang-Won,’ which refers to the three iconic third-generation K-pop boy groups: EXO, BTS, and Wanna One. These groups, who had temporarily halted full-group activities due to reasons such as military service, solo endeavors, and disbandment, are all set to return in the first half of this year.

First, EXO will release their 8th full album ‘REVERXE’ on the 19th, marking their return as a full group two and a half years after their military hiatus.

The title track ‘Crown’ combines Atlanta trap drums, heavy metal guitar, and EDM synths to create a boundary-breaking hard dance track. Its lyrics impressively express the determination to protect a cherished person, likened to a coveted ‘crown,’ until the end.

Previously, EXO first showcased the track ‘Back It Up’ at ‘MMA 2025’ last month. During performances of their hit songs like ‘Wolf,’ ‘Monster,’ ‘The Eve,’ and ‘Love Shot,’ audience fan chants erupted, proving their enduring popularity. This moment deeply resonated with K-pop fans who had awaited EXO’s return.

However, members Chen, Baekhyun, and Xiumin will not participate in this comeback. With some members having departed SM for other agencies, this return holds even greater significance for fans.

Global stars BTS are next to return. With all members having completed military service last year, BTS will stand before ARMY (their fan club) as a full group after approximately 3 years and 9 months.

The new album will feature 14 self-produced tracks, marking their first full album release since ‘MAP OF THE SOUL : 7’ in February 2020—their first in six years and one month.

True to their history of consistently expressing their thoughts through music since debut, BTS meticulously crafted this album to capture ‘the present BTS.’ They focused on album production in the latter half of last year, infusing personal thoughts into the music and coordinating their direction. Each track in the album is set to convey their accumulated emotions and reflections over time.

They also plan a large-scale world tour to accompany the comeback. Though the exact schedule has not yet been released, the tour announcement alone has heightened anticipation among ARMY worldwide. As their tour unfolds for the first time in four years, attention is focused on BTS, the ‘stage masters’ returning stronger than ever.

Wanna One, who captivated many nine years ago, is reuniting for the first time in seven years. However, instead of an album release, they will return as a full group through a reality program.

Wanna One.

On the 1st, Mnet Plus’s YouTube channel released a video titled ‘2026 COMING SOON, We Meet Again.’ A scene showing a cassette tape with the Wanna One logo, along with a snippet of their hit song ‘Spring Breeze,’ teased fans’ expectations. Members such as Hwang Minhyun, Yoon Jisung, Park Woojin, and Lee Daehwi increased anticipation by sharing the video on their personal social media.

Mnet told Xportsnews, “We are preparing for a first-half release this year. Details about the scheduling and specifics will be announced once confirmed.”

While the reality program is a welcome development, expectations for music activities also remain high.

Last October, during an interview for his first solo album, Bae Jinyoung addressed the possibility of a Wanna One reunion, saying, “Practically, the military issue exists, but we are very grateful for the ongoing interest and mentions from those who have supported Wanna One every year. If the timing and schedules align internally, we would like to reunite.”
