Young K Surpasses G-Dragon in Copyrights: ‘I Really Worked Hard’

Day6 band member Young K has surpassed G-Dragon in the number of registered songs with the Copyright Association.

On December 1, the YouTube channel ‘Janhyeong Shin Dong-yeop’ featured a video titled ‘Welcome to DAY6. Young K Helps Out Drunkenly Pretty’.

In the video, Jung Ho-chul commented, “As far as I know, Young K has caught up with GD in songwriting,” sparking the conversation.

Dawon added, “Hyung (Young K) is no joke when it comes to money,” to which Young K, looking flustered, grabbed Jung Ho-chul’s hand and remarked, “So you’re not on our side, sunbae?”

Young K explained, “The amount of copyright fees is vastly different from G-Dragon’s. I focused on quantity since I couldn’t compete in quality, working hard to release more songs,” and added, “I also asked composers to include my name when collaborating.” According to the Korean Music Copyright Association, Young K has registered a staggering 216 songs. Acknowledging this, Young K admitted, “I really worked hard.”

Shin Dong-yeop expressed envy, saying, “Writing lyrics is truly an admirable talent. Did you always have a habit of writing?” Young K replied, “No, it was a means of survival. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have debuted. We were in a position where we couldn’t debut without bringing good songs.”

He recalled, “When it was first decided we’d debut as a band, we were told, ‘You need to have your own color to debut.'”
