Singer G-Dragon responded to a fan’s post expressing frustration over his ‘live performance controversy’.
On November 29, G-Dragon took the stage at the ‘2025 MAMA Awards’ held at Hong Kong Kai Tak Stadium, performing ‘Drama’, ‘Heartbreaker’, and ‘Untitled’. However, after the show, he faced harsh criticism for his unstable live vocals, with some alleging he relied on background tracks and lacked professionalism.
Despite winning four awards, including the grand prize, G-Dragon’s live performance drew negative attention. In response, he left a ‘boo’ emoji on a video of his performance posted on the event’s official account.
However, he also attracted attention by liking a post from a fan who expressed their frustration and defended him with a video from the event. The fan stated, “I was so frustrated by the live performance controversy that I uploaded a video from the event. I just wanted people to reconsider. Isn’t G-Dragon a person too? He must have had a hard time, and there were unexpected situations in Hong Kong. Please check the facts before writing anything. G-Dragon did well, and he finished splendidly. No matter what, GD is GD. He sings live well.”
Following the performance, G-Dragon’s agency explained on December 1, “After preparing for ‘Drama’ and ‘Heartbreaker’, G-Dragon learned of a tragic local apartment fire and chose to revise his planned performance to include ‘Untitled’.” They added, “Despite the short preparation time, G-Dragon prioritized conveying his condolences and sincerity to the citizens of Hong Kong, and his genuine effort left a quiet but profound impact on those present.”
G-Dragon had previously faced live performance controversies at the ‘SBS Gayo Daejeon’ last year and a solo concert in March in Goyang. He is set to hold an encore concert for his world tour ‘Ubermensch’ on December 14 at 5 PM at Seoul’s Gocheok Sky Dome. It remains to be seen whether he can put these controversies behind him at the encore concert.
