Kangmin from the group VERIVERY expresses his deep-seated anxiety through music.
On March 26, Kangmin will release his first solo single album, ‘Free Falling.’ Leading up to the album’s release, he shared candid insights about the new album in a conversation with Xportsnews.
The album ‘Free Falling’ captures Kangmin’s time standing on the cusp between childhood and adulthood. It doesn’t portray a completed persona or a future filled with certainty but rather the process of facing anxiety and instability while moving forward one step at a time.
Kangmin viewed anxiety not as a negative situation but as an inevitable emotion to endure as an idol. He reflected, “Everyone experiences anxiety. After finishing ‘Bofl’, many people remarked it was another opportunity. After the show concluded, while holding individual fan meetings and group activities, I felt happy yet simultaneously anxious.”
He added, “I think I was anxious because I was too happy. From then until now, I’ve wanted to honestly show the anxiety I’ve felt.”
Kangmin also revealed that he worried people might be concerned about his feelings of anxiety. He said, “While preparing the album, I thought a lot and concluded that it’s natural to feel both happy and anxious. I wonder if this is an emotion that can never truly be resolved. I think I’ll need to use this anxiety as fuel as I continue my idol career.”
He emphasized to his fans, “Interestingly, the very root of this anxiety stems from you as fans. Since this anxiety comes from happiness, I want to ask if you can continue to make me happy.”
Debuting in 2019, Kangmin has renewed his contract with Jellyfish Entertainment and is in his seventh year. He mentioned, “Looking back, happiness and anxiety were always present, but I didn’t realize it at the time. Now, having gone through various experiences, I’ve learned to be grateful. This is why the theme of anxiety could emerge. I think the time spent in his activities holds significance in that aspect.”
Additionally, Kangmin shared his humble ultimate goal. He said, “My aim is to live an ordinary life, working hard with people I love, buying them good birthday meals and gifts. For me, an ordinary life means communicating with fans while pursuing my singing career. That’s how I hope to live.”
