As reports emerge that the government is pushing to hold a ‘K-Pop concert’ in China, major South Korean entertainment companies are also taking steps.
On the 15th, a spokesperson from the President’s office said, “Regarding the reports about the government hosting a K-Pop concert in China in early January, nothing has been confirmed yet, and we advise caution regarding such reports.”
Previously, Segye Ilbo reported that the government aims to host a ‘K-Pop concert’ in China in January, featuring a large number of Korean K-Pop artists.
There is optimistic speculation that if this concert happens, it could signal the end of the cultural restrictions known as the ‘Hallyu Ban’ in China.
It has also been confirmed that the President’s office recently requested cooperation from the four major agencies: HYBE, SM Entertainment, JYP Entertainment, and YG Entertainment regarding the concert.
A representative from JYP Entertainment told Xportsnews, “There haven’t been any confirmed bookings for the event, just a simple schedule inquiry for January.”
Although the ‘K-Pop concert’ is not officially confirmed, the mention of the possibility has already raised anticipation. With the prolonged ‘Hallyu Ban,’ large-scale concerts by K-Pop artists in China have been virtually impossible.
Additionally, the ongoing ‘Hanillyeong,’ which restricts Japanese pop culture content, has also disrupted fan meetings and autograph events for groups with Japanese members.
Many are now watching to see if the ‘K-Pop concert’ could become a stepping stone toward lifting the Hallyu Ban.
