Choi Jin-hyuk Rates Chemistry with Oh Yeon-seo as Perfect: ‘The Best Partner’

Choi Jin-hyuk expressed confidence in his on-screen chemistry with Oh Yeon-seo, rating it a perfect 100.

The new Channel A weekend drama “I Have a Baby” premieres on January 17. It is a romantic comedy that upends typical expectations, following a man and woman who swore off marriage but find their lives intertwined after a one-night stand leads to unforeseen consequences. It is based on a web novel and webtoon of the same name. On December 30, the production team of “I Have a Baby” released a written interview with Choi Jin-hyuk, who plays Kang Doo-jun, a CEO who decides to live his brother’s life out of guilt over his brother’s death.

Choi Jin-hyuk revealed, “I have a valuable pre-existing relationship with Director Kim Jin-sung from our work on the drama ‘Gu Family Book.’ This prompted me to approach the script with particular interest, and as I read it, I found the story’s progression truly captivating.” He added, “This isn’t merely a chaotic situation caused by a pregnancy. The journey of wounded characters finding healing in each other felt heartwarming, and I chose to join the cast because I wanted to contribute to creating something meaningful and enjoyable.”

When asked about his on-screen chemistry with Oh Yeon-seo, Choi confidently rated it “obviously 100,” further building anticipation for their pairing. He praised her, saying, “She’s the best partner, beyond measure. Her vibrant energy and nuanced emotional acting significantly helped bring Kang Doo-jun to life. Furthermore, Hee-won’s confident yet warm demeanor on set allowed me to naturally immerse myself in Doo-jun’s emotions.”

Choi Jin-hyuk highlighted the opening scene of episode 2, where Doo-jun proposes after discovering Hee-won’s pregnancy. He revealed, “Reading the script, Doo-jun’s decision genuinely surprised me.”

“I Have a Baby” stands out with its bold twist on the typical order of romance. Choi said that he prefers relationships that are like deep friendships or family, rather than fast-paced romances. He added, “I prefer stable relationships where individuals support each other. This allowed me to deeply empathize with and portray Doo-jun’s journey toward finding ordinary happiness and stability with Hee-won.”

Regarding his character, Choi noted, “Doo-jun appears to be a cold CEO, but he carries a hidden trauma. I also share a strong sense of responsibility to prioritize my family,” building anticipation for his portrayal.

Finally, Choi described “I Have a Baby” as a drama featuring heartwarming romance and comedic episodes centered around the Tae-han Liquor family and the intertwined relationships of both families. He concluded, “The cast’s chemistry is excellent, guaranteeing plenty of laughs. We worked diligently, so please anticipate its premiere and show your support.”

Meanwhile, “I Have a Baby” will premiere on Channel A on Saturday, January 17, at 10:30 PM.
