Choi Sooyoung Makes a Strong Start as Cold-Hearted Star Lawyer with a Twist in ‘IdolI’

Actress Choi Sooyoung has made an impressive start in the drama ‘IdolI.’

Choi Sooyoung made her presence felt in the Genie TV original drama ‘IdolI.’ With her perfect transformation and lively acting, she established the series’ tone and instantly boosted viewer engagement. Her standout portrayal of a cold-hearted star lawyer and passionate fan helped define the first episode.

Premiering on the 22nd, ‘IdolI’ follows the mystery courtroom romance of star lawyer Maeng Sena, a fervent fan, who takes on the case of her favorite idol Do Raik (played by Kim Jae-young), who is suspected of murder. Choi Sooyoung takes on the role of star lawyer Maeng Sena, known for exclusively handling challenging criminal cases and securing victories. However, she transforms into an ardent fan in front of her favorite idol, Do Raik from the band ‘Gold Boys.’ Choi Sooyoung skillfully portrays this dramatic contrast, making viewers eagerly anticipate her portrayal of Maeng Sena.

In the first episode, the unexpected meeting between Sena and Raik heightened intrigue. After failing to secure a ticket to Raik’s solo concert, Sena confronted a scalper, rebuked him for illegal ticket sales practices, and encountered Raik by chance while chasing the scalper. Despite the joy of meeting her idol, the situation abruptly changed when member Woo Sung (played by An Woo-yeon) was murdered in Raik’s home, leading to Raik becoming the prime suspect. This twist intensified the drama when the two faced each other again, this time as lawyer and murder suspect.

Choi Sooyoung crafted a captivating character within just one episode, navigating the unique premise of proving her idol’s innocence in a romance. Her portrayal of a robotically cold lawyer who becomes disarmed in front of her favorite idol, with varying visuals, attitudes, and speech, maintained the drama’s rhythm and deepened curiosity about its progression. Her natural and relatable acting won viewers’ hearts and added humor, thereby enhancing engagement.

Choi Sooyoung has consistently delivered impressive performances across multiple projects, and in the first episode of ‘IdolI,’ she firmly established her strong acting capabilities. Her impactful presence already draws significant attention and anticipation from viewers.

Meanwhile, ‘IdolI’ airs every Monday and Tuesday at 10 PM on KT Genie TV and simultaneously on ENA.
