Hyun Bin’s return to series and his first OTT original, ‘Made in Korea,’ is scheduled for release tomorrow.
Disney+’s ‘Made in Korea,’ set in 1970s South Korea—a period of both chaos and opportunity—follows Baek Ki-tae (Hyun Bin), a man striving for ultimate wealth and power by treating the nation as his personal business model, and prosecutor Jang Geon-young (Jung Woo-sung), who relentlessly pursues him. Hyun Bin portrays Baek Ki-tae, an ambitious Central Intelligence Agency section chief, who navigates the monumental events of the era.
Celebrating his 21st year in the industry, the veteran actor promises an unprecedented character transformation and new challenges in ‘Made in Korea.’ Here are three key points to watch:
Hyun Bin’s Ambitious Noir Transformation
In a previous interview, Hyun Bin characterized Baek Ki-tae as “the most explicitly ambitious character” of his career. Baek Ki-tae leads a dual life, maintaining his power as a daytime CIA officer while expanding his influence through nocturnal smuggling. Known for his distinct presence in romance, Hyun Bin now delves into historical and noir genres, delivering a weighty narrative with a completely new persona.
The Unbeatable Combination: Pomade and Suits Elevate Charisma
To embody the symbolic role of a CIA agent, Hyun Bin meticulously refined his physique and styling. He maximizes Baek Ki-tae’s imposing presence with sleek, pomaded hair, a solid build, and sharply tailored suits. Ironically, this cool styling amplifies his classic handsome features, enhancing the character’s duality and appeal. Over its six episodes, his styling is anticipated to be a major highlight.
The Spectrum of Diverse Character Relationships
Hyun Bin has previously showcased broad chemistry in both romance and bromance roles. In ‘Made in Korea,’ he will forge complex relationships, from intense rivalry with Jang Geon-young to fraternal ties with Baek Ki-hyun (Woo Do-hwan) and strategic alliances with Ikeda Yuji (Won Ji-an). The evolving dynamics with each character will shape Baek Ki-tae’s choices and highlight Hyun Bin’s emotional range, promising to heighten viewer immersion.
Hyun Bin’s relentless new challenge in ‘Made in Korea’ will premiere globally on Disney+ this Christmas Eve.
