Ji Sung, in his return to MBC after a decade, teases a thrilling experience of justice in the upcoming drama ‘The Judge Returns.’
Set to premiere on Friday, January 2, 2026, MBC’s new Friday-Saturday drama ‘The Judge Returns’ follows a corrupt judge who has been a slave to a major law firm. He is sent back in time ten years to face new decisions that allow him to combat evil. Ji Sung plays the role of Lee Han-young, a judge known for accepting bribes.
Having compromised with power to deliver unjust rulings, an unexpected event sends him back to his days as a single judge ten years ago, transforming him from an agent of evil to one pursuing justice. Ji Sung aims to amplify the complexity of Lee Han-young’s character through intricate performance.
On choosing ‘The Judge Returns’ Ji Sung remarked, “It’s more than just critiquing an event or subject; it’s about deeply contemplating ‘who will make the right choice?'” He expressed his desire to explore human conflict and introspection, believing the drama provides meaningful questions.
He highlighted Lee Han-young’s ‘change in values’ upon returning to the past as a crucial element of the story, saying, “The gap where the same person adopts entirely different values marks a key aspect of this character.” His remarks heighten interest in Lee Han-young’s narrative.
Furthermore, Ji Sung pointed out the chemistry with Park Hee-soon (playing Kang Shin-jin) and Won Jin-ah (playing Kim Jin-ah), who play opposite him. Anticipation builds for their dynamic synergy on screen.
“Scenes exchanging energy with senior Park Hee-soon were thrilling and exciting, and filming with Won Jin-ah allowed me to quickly focus and immerse back into Lee Han-young’s emotions,” Ji Sung shared. “Every moment with them was pure ‘harmony,’ which allowed me to delve deeper into my character.”
Ji Sung concluded by saying that the greatest charm of ‘The Judge Returns’ is its ‘thrilling’ nature, stating, “It’s a work that shows how brightly justice can shine amid darkness and chaos.” He hopes the drama, without a dull moment, provides viewers with a refreshing escape and urges for their love and attention.
