JTBC’s upcoming drama ‘Human X Gumiho’ is set to captivate audiences with its compelling cast.

‘Human X Gumiho’ is a fantasy romantic comedy depicting the fated encounter between a captivating supernatural being that enthralls humans and a human who mysteriously attracts such entities.

Directed by Kim Jeong-sik, known for ‘I Hate Losing’ and ‘Strong Woman Gang Nam-soon,’ and penned by Lim Meari, whose works include beloved romantic comedies like ‘Doom at Your Service’ and ‘Beauty Inside,’ the project has garnered high anticipation.

The star-studded cast, poised to amplify the charm of the fantasy romantic comedy, has garnered significant attention. After generating buzz with the casting of Jun Ji-hyun and Ji Chang-wook, actors Cha Joo-young, Kang Yoo-seok, Kim Jong-soo, and Kim Min-seok have joined, further heightening expectations. Jun Ji-hyun transforms into ‘Gu Ja-hong,’ a top actress and ancient gumiho, renowned for captivating audiences with her exceptional acting and beauty. Possessing an innate charm that leads to numerous scandals, Gu Ja-hong, who once effortlessly manipulated humans with her mysterious and potent abilities, encounters the only human immune to her powers: Choi Seok, portrayed by Ji Chang-wook. Jun Ji-hyun stated, ‘I am excited to work with such esteemed directors, writers, staff, and fellow actors. We will unite to deliver a quality production to our audience.’

Ji Chang-wook takes on the role of ‘Choi Seok,’ a shaman and director of the Osung Museum. Though seemingly lighthearted and cheerful, Choi Seok possesses a special ability to perceive the world’s darker realities. As he becomes inexplicably intrigued by the gumiho who invades his domain, he experiences unforeseen changes. Ji Chang-wook shared, ‘Beyond the chemistry between human and gumiho, the banter among characters makes the script intriguing, sparking my curiosity about the story’s progression. The narrative between Choi Seok and Ja-hong has been particularly fascinating, and filming has been enjoyable. We kindly ask for your interest and support.’

Cha Joo-young plays ‘Ji Woo-kyung,’ CEO of Woo-gyeong Entertainment and Gu Ja-hong’s close partner. Ji Woo-kyung is the only one who knows Gu Ja-hong’s true identity and displays exceptional capability. Portraying Ji Woo-kyung’s bold and provocative traits, Cha Joo-young said, ‘The directors, writers, and actors are all wonderful individuals, and I’m looking forward to exchanging positive energy on set.’ Kang Yoo-seok appears as ‘Go Tae-seung,’ the deputy director of the Osung Museum, in a new role. As Choi Seok’s sole friend since childhood, Go Tae-seung skillfully supports Choi Seok as situations grow more challenging. Kang Yoo-seok expressed, ‘I’m grateful and excited to be part of such a great project with director Kim Jeong-sik, writer Lim Meari, and many veteran actors. It’s a great honor to work alongside them. I will strive to fully embody Go Tae-seung’s charm.’

Veteran actor Kim Jong-soo transforms into ‘Mankan,’ Choi Seok’s grandfather and the owner of Osungjae, promising unique chemistry with Ji Chang-wook. Kim Jong-soo said, ‘I’m delighted to work with a solid production team and outstanding actors. I will try my best to ensure the audience loves the character.’ Actor Kim Min-seok takes on the role of ‘Beomi,’ a tiger from Inwangsan Mountain who enjoys a relaxed life. His interactions with Choi Seok and Go Tae-seung, with whom he unexpectedly ends up living together, will add another layer of fun. Kim Min-seok shared, ‘The story was so compelling and engrossing that I read the script in one sitting. I’m keen to do well as it portrays a different character from what I’ve previously shown. I hope for much anticipation.’

The drama also features an exceptional lineup of special appearances. Hwang In-yeop plays ‘Sam-i,’ a mythical three-legged creature (Samjokgu) known as the natural enemy of gumiho, who holds a thousand years of enmity for Gu Ja-hong and plays a pivotal role in the drama. Portraying a cool and enigmatic character, Hwang In-yeop expressed, ‘It’s an honor to be part of such a wonderful project with respected seniors. I believe I’ll be able to present a different portrayal as a ‘villain’ character. Please look forward to it.’

Kim Seol-hyun and Lee Jae-in take on roles as distinct mythical beings, ‘Yeon-i’ and ‘Bang-sang,’ who exert a strong presence as spirits surrounding Gu Ja-hong and Choi Seok. Kim Seol-hyun, playing ‘Yeon-i,’ the memory-guarding spirit who guards the spring where mythical creatures are born, shared, ‘I am happy and excited to be part of this work, and I am grateful to work with such talented actors and staff.
