Lee Je-hoon, a recipient of top acting honors, and rising star Ha Young are set to co-star in SBS’s new drama ‘Against the Odds.’
‘Against the Odds’ is a lighthearted legal comedy-drama that follows an unconventional law firm. Led by Kwon Baek, a former lawyer turned manager, the firm takes on seemingly hopeless cases and resolves them with unconventional methods.
Scheduled to air in 2027, ‘Against the Odds’ is directed by Kwon Da-som, who previously co-directed the dramas ‘Connection’ and ‘My Demon.’ The script is penned by Jeong Jin-young and Kim Ui-chan, renowned for iconic Korean sitcoms such as ‘Soonpoong Clinic,’ ‘Can’t Stop Them,’ and ‘Three Men and Three Women.’ Their involvement heightens expectations for a new legendary series.
The casting of Lee Je-hoon and Ha Young in the lead roles further heightens anticipation. Lee Je-hoon, who secured his second acting Grand Prize last year for the drama ‘Taxi Driver 3,’ and Ha Young, who achieved global recognition through ‘Severe Trauma Center,’ are projected to create significant synergy.
Lee Je-hoon steps into the role of Kwon Baek, a former star lawyer who now serves as the manager of the ‘Seungsan’ law firm. After being disbarred following a bribery scandal, Kwon Baek makes a dramatic return as the manager of a modest law office he established with a diverse group of individuals.
Having experienced both triumphs and setbacks, Kwon Baek employs clever strategies, including setting traps to reveal truths and orchestrating elaborate performances. He emerges as an eccentric manager, proving more astute and charismatic than during his time as a lawyer.
Ha Young portrays Yeoh Sim-hee, a passionate new lawyer characterized by immense diligence despite lacking wealth or connections. Unaware of Kwon Baek’s past downfall due to the bribery scandal, she accepts his offer to become the chief lawyer at Seungsan.
Initially disillusioned by her flawed role model, Yeoh Sim-hee finds renewed inspiration as Kwon Baek demonstrates his uncanny ability to anticipate future moves. Under his guidance, she develops into a highly competent lawyer.
Lee Je-hoon and Ha Young are expected to elevate the drama’s appeal through their exceptional acting prowess, delivering vibrant character portrayals and intricately illustrating the evolving relationship between their characters.
Their dynamic, marked by playful banter and genuine concern as manager and lawyer, promises not only an engaging storyline but also a bond that transcends mentorship, evolving into a strong partnership. This has fueled high expectations for their “winning combination.”
