Disney+’s original series ‘Made in Korea’ has released a production video highlighting three key reasons to look forward to the show.

#1. Made in Characters: A Dense Story of Unprecedented Ambition
Set in South Korea during the tumultuous 1970s, the story follows Baek Ki-tae, played by Hyun Bin, who aims to reach the peak of wealth and power using the nation as his business model, and prosecutor Jang Gun-young, portrayed by Jung Woo-sung, who relentlessly pursues him. The first point of anticipation is the intricate and tension-filled relationships among these characters. Writer Park Eun-kyo describes the series as featuring “characters who fully clash with each other,” promising intense excitement. The actors have commented, “This is the most direct expression of ambition I’ve played so far” (Hyun Bin), “The tension between the characters in the script’s world” (Jung Woo-sung), and “Who would refuse such attractive characters?” (Kang Ki-woo), highlighting the powerful energy and multi-dimensional narratives born from their desires.

#2. Made in Director: Director Woo Min-ho’s Strength in Creating a Unique Hybrid Genre
The second anticipation point is that this marks director Woo Min-ho’s first venture into OTT series. Known for his sharp insights into modern Korean history through films such as ‘Harbin,’ ‘The Man Standing Next,’ and ‘Inside Men,’ Woo brings his solid scriptwriting, meticulous directing, edgy mise-en-scène, and distinctive character development to this six-episode series. The actors express deep trust in him, saying, “He often offers spine-chilling solutions during rehearsals” (Jo Yeo-jeong), “A truly creative director” (Park Yong-woo), and “The director seems to love this project more than anyone on set” (Woo Do-hwan). Expectations are high for Woo Min-ho’s ability to create a unique hybrid genre.

#3. Made in History: Perfectly Captured Era Through Exceptional Acting and Thorough Research
The third anticipation point is the show’s meticulous rendering of the era, achieved through outstanding acting and detailed production. Director Woo Min-ho stated, “I hope to express the unique colors and designs of the era without making it look outdated.” Actor No Jae-won added, “I still remember the smell and temperature. It was really cold, scary, and immense.” By integrating meticulous lighting and camera work, ‘Made in Korea’ vividly brings the historical background to life, visualizing the intense conflicts and ambitions of the characters across expansive locations both inside and outside Korea.
‘Made in Korea’ will premiere exclusively on Disney+ with two episodes releasing on December 24, two on December 31, one on January 7, and one on January 14, for a total of six episodes.
