Netflix Reveals ‘BTS Comeback Live: ARIRANG’ Drew 18.4 Million Viewers; 164 Tons of Equipment Deployed

Netflix has highlighted the success of BTS’s recent comeback live broadcast.

According to Netflix, the live broadcast “BTS Comeback Live: ARIRANG,” which aired on the 21st, was lauded as a cultural event that showcased Korea’s beauty to the world, drawing 18.4 million global viewers on Netflix on the day of its live broadcast.

Marking Netflix’s inaugural live event streamed from Korea, “BTS Comeback Live: ARIRANG” landed in the weekly Top 10 in 80 countries and claimed the top spot in 24, further underscoring the global interest in BTS and K-pop.

The live event, broadcast worldwide, united global audiences. Netflix leveraged its proprietary Open Connect content delivery network, alongside advanced technologies such as load balancing, multi-encoder automatic switching, and live encoding pipelines, to guarantee global viewers experienced BTS’s comeback performance under optimal conditions.

The BTS live concert, which transformed Gwanghwamun into a sea of purple, demonstrated an unprecedented scale in both technology and production operations. To achieve harmony between tradition and modernity, and a balance of scale and intimacy, staff from 10 countries collaborated, communicating in eight different languages. A robust filming infrastructure was established, deploying 23 cameras, 124 broadcast monitors, and 164.5 tons of equipment. Approximately 9.5 kilometers of power cables were installed, and 9,660 kVA of power was supplied. Furthermore, the live production managed 40 terabytes of server capacity and 108 terabytes of filming data.

A Netflix representative noted, “Netflix has been part of spreading Korean culture globally through K-dramas and K-movies. This event with BTS exemplifies our steps into K-pop, and we will continue efforts to promote Korean content globally in various formats and genres.”

The “BTS Comeback Live: ARIRANG” is now available on Netflix, offering viewers Dolby Vision’s rich colors and Dolby ATMOS’s immersive sound. Additionally, newly updated subtitles in over 34 languages have been made available post-broadcast.

Notably, Netflix offers Korean and English audio descriptions and SDH subtitles to make “BTS Comeback Live: ARIRANG” accessible to everyone.
