
Actors Yoo Yeon-seok and Esom, who will star as lawyers in the new SBS Friday-Saturday drama ‘The Spirit’s Counsel,’ recently unveiled a script reading session filled with laughter, energy, and immersive character portrayals.
‘The Spirit’s Counsel’ follows a captivating and heartwarming adventure featuring Shin Irang, a ‘spirit-possessed lawyer’ who resolves the grudges of the dead, and Han Nahyeon, a ‘cold-blooded elite lawyer’ determined to win every case.
Key cast members Yoo Yeon-seok, Esom, Kim Kyung-nam, Jeon Seok-ho, Kim Mi-kyung, Son Yeo-eun, Lee Ah-rin, Jung Seung-gil, and Heo Sung-tae, along with director Shin Joong-hoon and writers Kim Ga-young and Kang Chul-gyu, gathered for the script reading at the SBS Ilsan Production Center.
The production also released a making-of video that captured the comedic chemistry and lively atmosphere, showcasing a promising new drama blending comedy and warmth into a traditional courtroom setting.
Yoo Yeon-seok, in his role as Shin Irang, led the session with his versatile acting, portraying a wide range of emotions from heartwarming humanity to the chaos and changes brought by suddenly seeing ghosts.
This marks Yoo Yeon-seok’s first attempt at full-blown comedic acting. His hilarious variations in speech and expression during spirit possession drew laughter and lifted the atmosphere on set. He expressed his commitment to embodying the role to the fullest.
Esom, taking on the role of Han Nahyeon, an ace lawyer at Taebaek Law Firm with a 100% win rate, captivated with her steely charisma, depicting the character’s obstinacy and internal struggles for success from the first rehearsal.
Kim Kyung-nam, as Taebaek Law Firm’s ambitious and sharp-edged leader Yang Do-kyung, skillfully portrayed a character driven to gain recognition and trust amidst his father’s absence, stirring curiosity about his complex relationships with Shin Irang and Han Nahyeon.

Other characters also added warmth and vitality to the narrative. Jeon Seok-ho, as Shin Irang’s brother-in-law Yoon Bong-soo, brought charming realism and humor to the scene.
Kim Mi-kyung also stood out as Park Kyung-hwa, Shin Irang’s mother and the owner of a meat shop, portraying a character with depth beneath a tough exterior. Along with Son Yeo-eun, who plays older sister Shin Sarang, and Lee Ah-rin as her daughter Yoon Dabong, they completed the lively family chemistry.
Jung Seung-gil as the mysterious priest Mateo added a serene warmth to the drama, promising significant advice to Shin Irang at crucial moments.
Special clients, including Heo Sung-tae as Lee Gang-pung, amplified the excitement in the storyline, contributing unique dynamics and capturing attention.
A production representative stated, “Despite being the first script reading, the actors delivered impressive performances by fully immersing in their characters. We are preparing to deliver a unique charm that combines comedy, humanity, and judicial drama.”
‘The Spirit’s Counsel,’ the new SBS Friday-Saturday drama, premieres on March 13 at 9:50 PM.
