The animated film ‘Zootopia 2’ (directed by Jared Bush and Byron Howard) is setting new records and forecasted to be a box office sensation.
Released on the 26th, ‘Zootopia 2’ attracted over 309,000 viewers, securing the number one spot at the box office.
On its opening day, it was predicted to draw approximately 356,000 viewers with a pre-sale rate of 65.9%. This figure places it fourth among 2025 releases, following ‘Demon Slayer: The Movie – Mugen Train’ (907,000 viewers), ‘It’s Unavoidable’ (401,000 viewers), and ‘Mission Impossible: Final Reckoning’ (359,000 viewers).

Additionally, ‘Zootopia 2’ recorded the highest opening day audience for a Disney animated film in the 2020s, surpassing ‘Moana 2’ from last year, which had 196,000 viewers.
Although ‘Zootopia 2’ benefitted from dates like Culture Day, it is revitalizing the theater industry, which has been in a slump.
Moreover, CGV Egg Index, a popular metric among moviegoers, maintains a remarkable 98%. The chemistry between the main characters Nick (Jason Bateman) and Judy (Jennifer Goodwin) is receiving rave reviews, suggesting a bright conclusion at the box office.

Given that there are no formidable competitors until the end-of-December release of James Cameron’s new movie ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’, a long-term success seems likely.
As a result, there is interest in whether ‘Zootopia 2’ can surpass the records of its predecessor. Released in February 2016, ‘Zootopia’ gathered only 35,000 viewers on its opening day, starting somewhat disappointingly but eventually claimed the top box office position after a month through word-of-mouth.
‘Zootopia’ achieved long-term success by screening for five months, eventually drawing 4.7 million viewers. Attention is on whether ‘Zootopia 2’ can exceed this record and be the first 2025 release to surpass 6 million viewers.
