NewJeans’ Hyein’s birthday brought an update to the group’s official account, but the fan communication platform Phoning showed a stark contrast in engagement.
At midnight on the 21st, NewJeans’ official account posted several photos of Hyein along with the message “HAPPY HYEIN DAY.”
In the unveiled photos, Hyein sported long, straight hair, showcasing both a pure and mature look, with distinct features and a unique vibe.
The new photos on the official account marked the first update in approximately six months, following a post celebrating the Bunnies’ 3rd anniversary last October.
The last video posted on NewJeans’ official YouTube channel was from last Christmas, leading to speculation that the group might announce a comeback coinciding with Hyein’s birthday.
However, no news regarding Hyein’s birthday appeared on their fan communication platform, Phoning. Amidst the ongoing exclusive contract dispute between NewJeans and ADOR, members had previously signaled their intent not to communicate through Phoning by changing profile pictures and captions.
Although the court ruled in favor of ADOR, Haerin and Hyein returned to the agency after discussions. Minji, Hani, and Danielle also expressed intentions to return. However, ADOR only allowed Hani’s return, while discussions with Minji continue, and the agency notified Danielle of contract termination.
An update on Phoning did occur on the 3rd, but aside from a change in the main photo, little else has changed.
In contrast, accessing NewJeans’ Weverse displayed a pop-up message celebrating Hyein’s birthday. Despite various announcements made through Weverse, the absence of any message on Phoning remains puzzling, especially since NewJeans has communicated with fans via Phoning since November 2022.
Hyein, however, has also not communicated with fans via Phoning.
According to ADOR, Hani, Haerin, and Hyein visited Copenhagen, Denmark, on the 12th. This has fueled speculation that they might be shooting new content, drawing attention to when NewJeans will resume activities after the contract dispute led to a hiatus.
