Joo Se-bin Cast as Lead in Phoebe (Im Sung-han)’s ‘Dr. Shin,’ ‘Excited for First Starring Role’

Actress Joo Se-bin has landed her first starring role as Geum Ba-ra, emerging from fierce auditions to be personally selected by writer Phoebe (Im Sung-han).

The new weekend mini-series “Dr. Shin,” set to premiere on March 14 on TV CHOSUN, is a medical thriller drama about a genius doctor challenging the realm of God and a woman losing her soul as her brain deteriorates overnight.

Anticipation is high for “Dr. Shin,” marking the first medical thriller from renowned writer Phoebe (Im Sung-han), celebrated for her imaginative storytelling that consistently delivers shock and sensation. Director Lee Seung-hoon, known for “Love (ft. Marriage and Divorce),” joins the production, promising a highly polished series.

In “Dr. Shin,” Joo Se-bin takes on the role of Geum Ba-ra, a junior reporter in the cultural department of Seong-woo Daily. Geum Ba-ra, an orphan from the Nua Foundation, is known for her cheerful and lively personality, as well as her journalistic skills. Having made an impression in “Fly Again” and “The Empire: Law of the Kingdom,” Joo Se-bin’s portrayal of Geum Ba-ra – a character with childhood wounds and a unique past – is highly anticipated as a new acting transformation.

On set, Joo Se-bin embodies Geum Ba-ra’s serious demeanor, engaging in conversation with an intense gaze that conveys a pure yet enigmatic charm. She also depicts the character deep in thought while contemplating a piece of art in a gallery, further fueling curiosity about the unfolding narrative.

Joo Se-bin shared her thoughts on the role: “While I was thrilled and overwhelmed by my first lead role, the responsibility of spearheading a project as a star felt significant. Through this project, I’ve learned a great deal about the attitude and capacity required for a lead. I will embrace this challenge and prove myself through my acting. Please anticipate and support the diverse sides I will continue to showcase,” she stated, expressing her firm resolve.

She also expressed gratitude to writer Phoebe (Im Sung-han): “Writer Phoebe’s works sharply reflect the depths of human nature and psychology while also capturing life’s irony and warmth. It’s a great honor to be part of a work that has been loved for so long. I aim to become an actor who can enhance the character’s texture and the work’s depth,” she said.

The production team commented, “Joo Se-bin is genuinely portraying the complex psychology of Geum Ba-ra, a character with childhood scars, through a tailor-fitted performance.” They added, “Expect to see Joo Se-bin’s more matured acting transformation in ‘Dr. Shin.'”

TV CHOSUN’s new weekend mini-series “Dr. Shin” explores a bizarre romance involving a top star who falls into a coma after an unforeseen accident, and the men who love her. The narrative integrates themes of love, desire, taboo, and sacrifice. The series will premiere simultaneously on March 14 (Saturday) at 10:30 p.m. on TV CHOSUN and Coupang Play.
