Red Velvet’s Wendy takes on her first musical challenge as she joins the cast of the 10th-anniversary performance of “Rebecca.”
According to a report by Xportsnews on the 19th, Wendy, a member of the group Red Velvet, has been cast in the musical “Rebecca,” which is set to open in August.
Wendy will portray the character of “I” and showcase her acting and singing skills. “I” is a character who evolves from a delicate and innocent woman into a strong and determined individual.
Since her debut with Red Velvet in 2014, Wendy has been loved for hit songs such as “Ice Cream Cake,” “Dumb Dumb,” “Russian Roulette,” “Rookie,” “Red Flavor,” “Peek-A-Boo,” “Psycho,” and “Feel My Rhythm.”
Now, in her 10th year since debut, Wendy embarks on a new challenge with the 10th-anniversary performance of “Rebecca.” Having showcased her versatility in various fields such as drama OSTs, hosting, animation dubbing, and radio DJing, there are high expectations for the charm she will bring to the musical stage.
“Rebecca,” celebrating its 10th anniversary, revolves around the characters of Maxim de Winter, haunted by trauma due to his late wife Rebecca’s death, Mrs. Danvers, the housekeeper who idolizes the deceased Rebecca and dominates Manderley Estate, and “I,” who stands against Mrs. Danvers to protect Maxim and unravel the mysterious incidents at Manderley Estate. The musical is based on the eponymous novel by Daphne du Maurier.
After its premiere at the Raimund Theater in Vienna, Austria, in 2006, “Rebecca” has been translated into 10 languages and performed in 12 countries worldwide. In 2013, it was adapted to suit the Korean sentiment and had its first performance, becoming a “mega bestseller” that received love from the audience until its sixth season in 2021.
The original authors, Michael Kunze and Sylvester Levay, praised the Korean stage as the best in the world.
The 10th-anniversary performance of “Rebecca” will take place from August 19th to November 19th at the Seoul Blue Square Shinhan Card Hall.
