The group BLACKPINK is being considered for the possibility of winning at the MTV VMAs for the second consecutive year.
On the 8th, the ‘MTV VMAs’ announced this year’s award categories and nominees through their official website and social media channels.
According to the announcement, BLACKPINK has been nominated in four categories with their pre-release track from their 2nd full album, ‘Pink Venom’: ‘Best K-Pop’, ‘Best Choreography’, ‘Best Art Direction’, and ‘Best Editing’.
The ‘MTV VMAs’ is regarded as one of the four major music awards in the United States, along with the Grammy Awards, Billboard Music Awards, and American Music Awards. It has a history spanning over 40 years since its inception in 1984 and awards are presented in approximately 24 categories. This year’s event will be held on September 12th at the Prudential Center in New Jersey.
There is anticipation as to whether BLACKPINK can take home the trophy at this year’s ‘MTV VMAs’ for the second consecutive year. In 2020, when they were nominated for the first time, they won in the ‘Song of the Summer’ category with ‘How You Like That’. Last year, they achieved a double crown with awards for ‘Best Metaverse Performance’ and ‘Best K-Pop (Lisa Solo)’.
