BTS RM Reflects on Difficulties and Future Plans

RM on Weverse Live

BTS RM (real name Kim Nam-joon) opened up about why the group hasn’t been active this year during a recent live broadcast.

On the afternoon of the 6th, RM conducted a live broadcast on the fan communication platform Weverse.

During the broadcast, RM stated, “I have ARMY friends around me who inform me when something happens and send me things. I’m not someone who can easily explain things when something occurs because I have many shortcomings. But if I can speak about it, I should try.”

He continued, “As you know, when events occur in this profession, I can’t explain all the behind-the-scenes details. I can no longer represent the team alone because I’m just one person,” he explained. “From around 2017-2018, while leading BTS, I feel like I handled a lot, but now each member has their own personality, boundaries, and lifestyle. It’s no longer feasible for me to speak on their behalf to the company,” he shared.

RM disclosed that BTS frequently faced crises that could have suspended group activities. “Many people ask, ‘Why just let the latter half of 2025 slip by?’ or ‘Why do nothing?’ We didn’t want to skip it either. I wanted to be active after my military discharge,” he mentioned. “However, there are things I can’t speak about, and reasons why we decided not to promote in the latter half of the year. I’m not at liberty to disclose them,” RM explained about not having a full comeback in the second half.

He continued, “I wanted to perform so badly. Our last concert was back in October 2022, which is already over three years ago. Of course, I’m sincere. I want to perform right away. But as you know, with time, much has changed, and preparation is needed,” he said. “I can’t speak for the other members, but personally, I feel a lot of pressure. All I’m doing is preparing, and that’s frustrating,” he shared about his burdens.

RM stated, “I wish the company would announce when our album releases and our next steps quickly, but, as you know, we are a public company, and this isn’t the Big Hit I first joined. I can’t freely manage the company’s confidential affairs, and I’m just an employee here, like the other members.”

Alongside this, RM mentioned, “Of course, we’ve changed, and you all have probably changed, too. It’s sensitive to make any judgments about that, but ultimately, we must move forward. I’ve contemplated countless times whether it would be better to suspend the team. We continue as a team because of our love for each other and our respect for you all.”

Lastly, RM remarked, “There’s not much time left now. We’ve made you wait so long, and I’m really sorry. But there’s nothing we can do. We have our reasons, and we can’t easily return before we release something we’re satisfied with. We have to consider many things. We can only make excuses, and I’m sorry. It might not be what you want, but we’ll try our best,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, BTS is preparing for a full group comeback in the spring of 2026.
