Hyun Bin has unveiled his new noir project.

The Disney+ original series ‘Made in Korea’ premiered on the 24th, immediately captivating viewers with Hyun Bin’s intense transformation.

‘Made in Korea’ is set in 1970s Korea, a time of both confusion and development. It tells the story of Baek Ki-tae (Hyun Bin), a man who uses the nation as a profit model to ascend to the pinnacle of wealth and power, and prosecutor Jang Geon-young (Jung Woo-sung), who relentlessly pursues him. The series tackles significant events of the era, with Hyun Bin’s diverse performance firmly anchoring the narrative and drawing a strong response.

From the opening scene, Hyun Bin elevates immersion with his unique presence. Heavy narration over the sepia-toned screen swiftly transports viewers to the 1970s, establishing the distinct texture of historical dramas. His portrayal of a negotiator, who skillfully executes a double hijacking and adeptly achieves his objectives, is particularly striking. This performance conveys Baek Ki-tae’s ambition and coldness—hallmarks of Hyun Bin’s new persona.

The action sequences also garnered attention. In the confined airplane setting, refined and intense action sequences showcase Hyun Bin’s strengths. Scenes depicting him subduing a katana-wielding opponent, swiftly taking control of the situation, and commanding with fluent Japanese reveal the character’s duality and coolness, elevating the drama’s tension. A brief pause upon the revelation of his Central Intelligence Agency affiliation further intensifies the scene.

Director Woo Min-ho’s second collaboration with Hyun Bin further enhances the series’ completeness. Reuniting with Hyun Bin after ‘Harbin,’ the pair once again exhibits remarkable synergy, solidifying both characters and narrative. The direction meticulously highlights Hyun Bin’s strengths, from weighty narrations to intense action, further perfecting this character transformation.

During the production presentation, Hyun Bin stated that he approached the project with enjoyment, setting aside any perceived burden. True to his words, the premiere showcased his mature power as an actor who transcends conventional frameworks, allowing him to craft the character in his unique style.

Following such a successful premiere, the series ‘Made in Korea’ is poised for a promising run.

Meanwhile, additional episodes of the Disney+ original series ‘Made in Korea’ will be released exclusively on Disney+ on December 31, January 7, and January 14.
