AKMU concluded their exclusive contract with YG Entertainment, expressing heartfelt gratitude. On December 31, AKMU’s Suhyun posted a photo on her social media account, revealing a coffee truck banner set up in front of YG Entertainment’s headquarters.

The banner featured an image from AKMU’s early debut days and the phrase, “Thank you for the long days and nights,” drawing attention.

December 31 marked the official end of Suhyun’s exclusive contract with YG Entertainment. On her final day with the agency where she debuted, Suhyun gifted a coffee truck as a gesture of gratitude for their long-standing relationship.

Xportsnews exclusively reported in November that AKMU would depart YG Entertainment after 12 years to establish an independent venture.

AKMU terminated their exclusive contract with YG Entertainment at the end of December and will establish an independent company with their long-time manager from YG.

A music industry insider told Xportsnews at the time that Lee Chanhyuk, Lee Suhyun, and Executive Producer Yang Hyun-suk had met for a meal months prior. The insider added that Yang, who had closely overseen the siblings for 12 years, reportedly supported their independence, suggesting that free activities in a new environment would be another catalyst for AKMU’s growth.

YG Entertainment also announced the termination of their contract with AKMU through an official statement, noting that both sides decided to part ways after in-depth discussions.

Lee Chanhyuk recently showed his loyalty by attending the wedding of the manager with whom he is launching the new venture, performing a celebratory song at the event. He willingly attended the wedding held in Jinju, Gyeongsangnam-do, and performed “Love is Endangered,” drawing attention with a splendid stage featuring a saxophonist, choreographers, and others, creating a performance as grand as an awards ceremony.

AKMU, the winning team of the 2012 SBS audition program ‘K-pop Star Season 2,’ gained public attention for their top-notch songwriting, composing, and vocal skills. They signed an exclusive contract with YG Entertainment in 2014 and debuted in the music industry. In 2019, they officially changed their name to ‘AKMU’ and have been active since.

AKMU boasts numerous hit songs, including “How Can I Love the Heartbreak, You’re the One I Love,” “NAKKA,” “DINOSAUR,” “200%,” and “Last Goodbye.”
