Veteran actor Ahn Sung-ki has died at age 74, seven days after losing consciousness.
Ahn passed away on the morning of the 5th at Soonchunhyang University Hospital in Yongsan, Seoul, with his family by his side.
On the 30th of last month, Ahn collapsed while eating when food became lodged in his throat. Paramedics rushed him to the emergency room, transporting him in cardiac arrest. Although his heart was revived, he never regained consciousness and remained in the ICU.
Due to his critical condition, his eldest son, Ahn Davin, immediately returned from abroad.
Doctors diagnosed Ahn Sung-ki with blood cancer in 2019, and he successfully completed treatment. In 2023, he appeared healthy at several official events, including the 13th Beautiful Artist Awards, a memorial for the late Kang Soo-yeon, the 4·19 Democracy Peace Prize Ceremony, the 10th Wildflower Film Awards, and the 43rd Golden Cinematography Awards.
However, the cancer recurred during follow-up examinations, leading him to undergo treatment again. Close associates had previously mentioned his deteriorating health, which drew widespread support and concern.
