Park Shin-hye Opens Up About Playing a 20-Year-Old: ‘Time Cannot Be Stopped, So I Just Insist’

Actor Park Shin-hye attends the 'Undercover Miss Hong' production presentation.

Actress Park Shin-hye candidly shared her thoughts on portraying a 20-year-old character.

On the 12th, a production presentation for tvN’s new weekend drama ‘Undercover Miss Hong’ was held at The Link Seoul Hotel in Guro-gu, Seoul. Actors Park Shin-hye, Ha Yoon-kyung, Cho Han-gyeol, and director Park Sun-ho attended the event.

‘Undercover Miss Hong’ is a retro office comedy drama set in the late 1990s. It follows Hong Geum-bo (played by Park Shin-hye), a securities inspector in her thirties, as she goes undercover as a 20-year-old rookie at a securities company with suspicious financial flows.

Park Shin-hye takes on the dual roles of elite inspector Hong Geum-bo and rookie employee Hong Jang-mi, portraying two contrasting characters. She plays both the 20-year-old Hong Jang-mi and the 35-year-old Hong Geum-bo, requiring her to distinctly express both roles.

Regarding the challenge of playing a 20-year-old, Park stated, “I felt a lot of pressure. Many viewers already know what I looked like at 20. However, as time is irreversible, I focused heavily on differentiating the hairstyles and costumes to highlight the difference between 35-year-old Hong Geum-bo and 20-year-old Hong Jang-mi.”

She added, “Even if my face looks mature, I created differences with fashion and hair.” She humorously admitted, “I just decided to insist on it.”

“Even if I appear mature, I just insist on being 20,” she explained, elaborating, “While 35-year-old Hong Geum-bo is a crisp, tailored career woman with straight hair and a three-piece suit, 20-year-old Hong Jang-mi embodies the ‘Candy’ look of H.O.T with hip-hop pants, oversized shirts, and short curly hair adorned with pins.”

Beyond physical differences, attention to detail extends to her speech. Park added, “There’s also a significant contrast in the acting tone between the characters. I worked hard to emphasize clear differences in dialogue and speaking style,” she said, explaining her dedication to bringing the character to life.

Meanwhile, ‘Undercover Miss Hong’ is set to premiere at 9:10 PM on the 17th.
