BTS is drawing attention with the announcement of ‘Arirang,’ their first new release in three years and nine months.
By choosing ‘Arirang,’ a representative Korean folk song, as the album title, BTS aims to embody their identity as a group rooted in Korea and infuse their music with themes of longing and deep love. The title effectively symbolizes BTS’s identity and the emotional essence of their new release.
Following news of BTS’s comeback, overseas fans have begun exploring the history and meaning of ‘Arirang.’
They are particularly focusing on how ‘Arirang’ historically provided strength to Koreans during painful periods such as Japanese colonial rule, war, and national division.

An overseas fan commented, “‘Arirang’ is a sacred song of longing, separation, patience, and love that transcends distances. It empowered Koreans to endure the colonial era, war, and division.” The fan added, “BTS choosing ‘Arirang’ means recognizing our origins, respecting them, and acknowledging that our people are with us. To the ARMYs who waited, loved, and stood by us, you are also part of this song.”
Another fan remarked, “There’s a reason ‘Arirang’ is considered an unofficial national anthem of Korea.” They noted that “‘Arirang’ is more than just a folk song; it is the heart of Korean culture. BTS releasing an album titled ‘Arirang’ and naming each version ‘Rooted in Korea,’ ‘Rooted in Music,’ and ‘Living Legend’ is truly inspiring.”
Some fans interpret ‘Ari’ as ‘beautiful’ and ‘Rang’ as ‘beloved person,’ translating the title to ‘my beloved person.’ They explained that “this song expresses the collective sentiment of Koreans through themes of separation, hardship, and patience.”

BTS has previously highlighted Korean elements, such as hanbok, in their solo comeback projects. They have also participated in various international events, including activities as special envoys for the UN General Assembly, showcasing a remarkable journey of cultural dissemination through K-pop beyond music itself.
Meanwhile, BTS is set to begin a new world tour on April 9 at Goyang Sports Complex. The tour will encompass 79 performances across 34 cities worldwide, making it the largest number of shows in K-pop history. The tour is expected to further expand with additional concerts in Japan and the Middle East.
