Actress Lee Ju-yeon made a strong impression in ‘Made in Korea.’
The Disney+ original series ‘Made in Korea,’ starring Lee Ju-yeon, is set in the tumultuous South Korea of the 1970s. It tells the story of Baek Ki-tae (Hyun Bin), who seeks to reach the pinnacle of power by leveraging the nation as a profit model, and prosecutor Jang Geon-young (Jung Woo-sung), who relentlessly pursues him, as they confront the hidden realities and significant historical events of the era.
Lee Ju-yeon portrays Jang Hye-eun, Jang Geon-young’s younger sister and a factory worker at a leather factory, who innocently endures hardships amidst power struggles. She vividly depicts a character unjustly subjected to adversity.
In episode 6, released on the 14th, Lee Ju-yeon played a pivotal role, becoming entangled in Baek Ki-tae’s scheme to obstruct Jang Geon-young’s investigation. The scene of Hye-eun in the interrogation room of the Central Intelligence Department, accused of espionage, heightened the drama’s intensity.
Despite false accusations of managing her brother Geon-young’s operational funds and sharing investigative secrets, Hye-eun passionately expresses her devotion to him, declaring, “My brother did nothing wrong.” Lee Ju-yeon masterfully conveys the character’s narrative, reflecting the pain of the times with eyes full of concentrated emotion.
Lee Ju-yeon’s nuanced acting further shone in scenes depicting Hye-eun’s return to everyday life, only to be forcibly taken away again by intelligence agents. Her fragile composure amidst extreme fear left a profound impact, illustrating the plight of an individual powerless against authority.
Lee Ju-yeon’s complete immersion in her character, creating an overwhelming atmosphere even in silence, enhanced the drama’s credibility. Her ability to showcase a broad emotional spectrum in ‘Made in Korea’ has garnered anticipation for her future projects.
