Xportsnews reported that police plan to refer the agencies representing K-pop artist CL (formerly of 2NE1) and actor Kang Dong-won to the prosecution on allegations of operating unregistered entertainment agencies.

On the 23rd, the Seoul Yongsan Police Station announced its plans to refer CL, the corporation she established, and the representative of Kang Dong-won’s agency, identified as ‘A,’ along with the corporation, to the Seoul Western District Prosecutor’s Office. Police will refer them without detention, citing violations of the Development of Popular Culture and Arts Industry Act.

CL founded the label Very Cherry in 2020 and has been active domestically and internationally. However, authorities accuse her of operating the company without proper registration as an entertainment agency.

Authorities also accuse Kang Dong-won’s agency, AA Group, of operating without registration for approximately two years and nine months since its establishment in 2023. However, prosecutors cleared Kang Dong-won of charges, noting his status as an affiliated actor with no involvement in the agency’s operations.

Under current law, corporations or individuals of a certain size who manage or handle the activities of popular culture artists must register as an entertainment agency. Violations can result in imprisonment for up to two years or fines of up to 20 million KRW.
