Group Astro member and actor Cha Eun-woo is embroiled in tax evasion allegations, drawing increased attention to his upcoming project, ‘WONDERFOOLS.’
Netflix recently hosted ‘Next on Netflix 2026 Korea,’ where the platform showcased its content direction and lineup for 2026. Actress Park Eun-bin, anticipating the release of the original series ‘WONDERFOOLS,’ attended the event.
Park Eun-bin shared her experience working with Cha Eun-woo, stating, “While I had previous ties with other actors, this was my first collaboration with Cha Eun-woo. He was so dedicated to his character that I couldn’t imagine a better actor for the role.”
She added, “He is fulfilling his military duties, and I believe he is doing well wherever he is. It would have been nice to promote together, but I will do my best for Eun-woo’s share too, hoping for his successful return.”
Despite Park Eun-bin’s support and the start of promotions for ‘WONDERFOOLS,’ Cha Eun-woo’s tax evasion controversy erupted the very next day.
Last year, Cha Eun-woo underwent a rigorous tax investigation by the Seoul Regional Tax Office’s Investigation Department 4, regarding allegations of tax evasion. The National Tax Service reportedly assessed him approximately 20 billion KRW in additional taxes.
Brands like Shinhan Bank, Marithe Francois Girbaud, and Abib, which featured Cha Eun-woo as a model, are reportedly distancing themselves by making related promotional videos private and deleting posts.
On the 26th, Cha Eun-woo addressed the issue on his personal social media, stating, “I will faithfully participate in the upcoming tax-related procedures,” and expressed he would humbly accept and take responsibility for the final decision of the relevant agencies.
‘WONDERFOOLS’ is a supernatural comic action adventure set in 1999, where a group of quirky locals gains superpowers from an unexpected event to combat villains threatening the peace of Hae-seong City. The series stars Park Eun-bin, Cha Eun-woo, Choi Dae-hoon, Im Sung-jae, Kim Hae-sook, and Son Hyun-joo, marking a reunion with director Yoo In-sik of ‘Extraordinary Attorney Woo.’
Cha Eun-woo plays the role of Lee Eun-jung, a special hire officer in Hae-seong City investigating a series of mysterious disappearances.
