Real-life couple and fellow actors IU and Lee Jong-suk are set to compete as rivals this year. Their unique competition is drawing significant attention.
Publicly dating since 2022, IU and Lee Jong-suk are one of the entertainment industry’s prominent couples, having maintained their relationship for four years. Both are slated to unveil new projects this year, generating high anticipation.
First, IU will maintain her busy schedule with MBC’s new Friday-Saturday drama ‘The 21st Century Grand Duchess,’ premiering in April. Last year, she earned acclaim for her romantic historical drama with Park Bo-gum in Netflix’s ‘When Life Gives You Tangerines.’ For her new work, she challenges herself with a fantasy historical drama.
In this project, IU portrays Sung Hee-joo, a wealthy woman striving for social ascension who enters a strategic marriage with Grand Prince Lee An (played by Byun Woo-seok), leading to a complex romance.

Particular attention is on her chemistry with popular actor Byun Woo-seok. Byun Woo-seok quickly rose to fame with his hit tvN drama ‘Lovely Runner.’ High expectations are set for the romantic synergy they will display in this project.
Lee Jong-suk, following last year’s drama ‘Seochodong,’ will return to screens this year with the Disney+ original series ‘The Remarried Empress.’ Based on a popular web novel, the series has already garnered attention for its star-studded cast, including Shin Min-a, Ju Ji-hoon, and Lee Se-young.
‘The Remarried Empress’ is a romantic fantasy centered on Empress Navier of the Eastern Empire. She demands a remarriage with Prince Heinri of the Western Kingdom after Emperor Sovieshu divorces her for falling for the slave Rashta. Lee Jong-suk plays Heinri, and his remarriage storyline with Shin Min-a is highly anticipated.

A preview has also sparked interest, highlighting Lee Jong-suk’s medieval styling and visual appeal.
IU and Lee Jong-suk continue to embody their “diligent couple” image by taking on leading roles, with the public eagerly awaiting their performances in their respective projects this year. The couple, who have fostered their love for four years, are garnering attention as they await public reception for their individual works.
