Teddy Breaks Through the ‘Grammy’ Glass Ceiling: Sets a ‘K-pop First’ Record, Missing the Ceremony

Teddy

Producer Teddy, formerly of the group 1TYM, has become the first K-pop producer to win an award at the Grammy Awards.

On the 1st (local time), at the 68th Grammy Awards Premiere Ceremony held in Los Angeles (LA), the Netflix animation ‘K-pop Demon Hunters’ soundtrack **’Golden’** won in the ‘Best Song Written for Visual Media’ category.

The ‘Best Song Written for Visual Media’ award honors songwriters for music created for visual media such as films, television, and video games. Alongside Teddy, Korean-American composer and singer 24 (Lee Jae), and the group Idiotape (Lee Yoo-han, Kwak Jung-kyu, Nam Hee-dong) were also recognized for their contributions.

In his acceptance speech, 24 said, “I dedicate this honor to Teddy, a pioneer of K-pop, who shared every step of the journey with us.”

Notably, Teddy has made history as the first K-pop producer to win a Grammy Award, marking a significant milestone in K-pop history. This achievement marks a meaningful victory for Asian musicians in a traditionally white-dominated Grammy scene.

However, Teddy did not attend the Grammy Awards, leaving some fans disappointed. Fans reacted with comments like “Congratulations on ‘Golden’ winning,” “I was looking forward to seeing Teddy on the Grammy red carpet, but it’s a shame,” and “It’s awesome that ‘K-pop Demon Hunters’ won an award.”
