BTS Takes Over Seoul: K-pop Unification Beyond Borders

BTS

BTS is set to take over Seoul.

After nearly four years, BTS will usher in the spring once again. The group is returning with their 5th album ‘ARIRANG’ on March 30. The hiatus due to military service has been lengthy, and the longing among their ARMY fans has only grown deeper. To satisfy this, BTS is literally using ‘Seoul’ as their stage.

On the day of their comeback, BTS will hold a performance unveiling their new album at Gwanghwamun Square and will also display media facades at key Seoul landmarks such as Sungnyemun and Seoul Tower.

Additionally, Yeouido Hangang Park will feature a lounge concept where fans can share and appreciate BTS’s music. The city’s stone walls, stairs, and trees will become exhibition spaces dedicated to BTS.

Such boldness in utilizing the entire city as a backdrop is only possible with BTS. Before enlisting in the military, the group proved its worldwide phenomenon-level popularity, which made this collaboration with Seoul a reality. While orchestrating a national-scale event might not be easy, the Seoul Metropolitan Government is proactively accompanying BTS in their endeavors simply because they are ‘BTS.’

According to analysis by the Seoul Metropolitan Government, the synergy is expected to greatly elevate the national image beyond just K-pop.

Can this bold venture of renting out the entire city captivate the world? Through Netflix, over 130 countries will live stream BTS’s ‘ARIRANG.’ This becomes another channel to connect the world through BTS’s music, transcending the physical space of Seoul and South Korea.

Will the thirst for BTS’s comeback end with Korean ARMYs? As ARMYs worldwide eagerly await March 20, the anticipation of whether BTS, standing atop Seoul, will bring about a grand K-pop unification is already difficult to contain.
