BTS’s ‘Arirang’ has climbed into the top three on the U.S. Billboard 200 for four consecutive weeks.
On the 20th, U.S. music magazine Billboard revealed in a chart preview article on its official website that BTS’s fifth studio album ‘Arirang’ ranked third on the main album chart Billboard 200 (as of April 25).
The new album, released on the 20th of last month, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 (as of April 4) and held the top spot for three consecutive weeks. It has remained in the top positions for a total of four weeks, demonstrating its widespread popularity.
According to Billboard, ‘Arirang’ recorded 78,000 album units this week, comprising pure album sales, SEA units (sales converted from streaming counts), and TEA units (sales converted from digital song download counts).
‘Arirang’ achieved the highest four-week ranking among BTS’s Billboard 200 entries. The previous best record was eighth place with their 2019 mini-album ‘MAP OF THE SOUL: PERSONA’. Its exceptional performance on global charts cements ‘Arirang’s’ status as the group’s biggest hit.
This indicates that a wide range of listeners beyond their dedicated fanbase are embracing BTS’s music. The expansion of their listener base signals the realization of ‘BTS 2.0,’ which was declared with their new release.
BTS’s global popularity is also extending to their concerts. The seven members kicked off the ‘BTS WORLD TOUR ‘ARIRANG” at Goyang Sports Complex Main Stadium on April 9 and April 11-12, engaging with over 132,000 fans. Additionally, the Tokyo Dome concerts on April 17-18 drew a cumulative audience of 110,000.
Especially noteworthy was the spontaneous group singing of the Korean folk song ‘Arirang’ at Tokyo Dome, creating an unforgettable moment. During the performance of the new song ‘Body to Body,’ which features the melody of ‘Arirang,’ local fans joined in chorus, marking an iconic scene in concert history. Riding this momentum, BTS will embark on their North American tour at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa on April 25-26 and April 28.
The ‘BTS WORLD TOUR ‘ARIRANG” will span 85 shows in 34 cities, setting a record for the highest number of shows by a Korean artist in a single tour. Each city is expected to set new records and create memorable scenes, heightening anticipation for the upcoming performances.
