SBS’s new Friday-Saturday drama ‘The Ghostly Lawyer Shin’ has unveiled the first stills of the spirited lawyer played by Yoo Yeon-seok.
This highly anticipated drama, following the tradition of SBS’s refreshing courtroom series, showcases Shin-Irang, a lawyer who resolves the grudges of the deceased, and Hanna-hyun, a cold-blooded elite lawyer determined to win at all costs, in a quirky yet heartwarming adventure.
The images, released today (5th), show Yoo Yeon-seok’s character Shin-Irang in a comical performance unlike any seen before, embodying multiple roles with distinct backstories and showcasing his “supernatural performance show.” Viewers get a glimpse of the character before and after his transformation, featuring Yoo’s unique charm as a smart lawyer donned in a sharp suit, as well as his disheveled look while praying at a church due to unwanted ghost sightings at Okcheon Building Unit 501.
Exploring Shin-Irang’s character through these contrasting stills reveals the stories hidden within him. Having spent his childhood growing up in Seocho-dong, Shin now begins a new legal career in the familiar locale despite law firms continuously rejecting him from interviews without him understanding why. Dubbed as living an ‘endless rejection’ life, his nature prevents him from ignoring a grandmother selling vegetables on the street, often earning him the label “soft-hearted” from his mother.
Shin-Irang’s life takes an unexpected turn following a fateful choice. Unaware that the office he leased was formerly used by a shaman, he begins to see ghosts after settling there. Facing inexplicable cases, his inability to ignore them leads him deeper into these tales, sparking curiosity about the realm of the “possessed lawyer” Shin-Irang.
The production team commented, “Shin-Irang isn’t an individual with special abilities or a hero from the start; it’s his empathetic nature that steers his life differently.” They added, “Yoo Yeon-seok, known for his varied roles across a wide range of works, convincingly completes the character Shin-Irang through his first comic performance and versatile changes according to different stories. Audiences can expect to encounter a different side of Yoo Yeon-seok.”
