Netflix 'Monthly Boyfriend'

The Netflix series ‘Monthly Boyfriend’ premieres in March.

Set to release on March 6, ‘Monthly Boyfriend’ is a romantic comedy starring BLACKPINK’s Jisoo as Mi-rae, a webtoon PD tired of real-life monotony, who subscribes to a virtual dating simulation to experience romance. Its unique premise promises to inject thrilling excitement into the relatable daily lives of office workers.

The series title, which is also the name of the virtual dating subscription service in the story, ‘Monthly Boyfriend,’ allows users to experience dream dates in a virtual world. This intriguing premise blends relatable daily routines with the unique concept of subscribing to virtual love, promising a delightful thrill.

High expectations surround the collaboration between Jisoo, known for her immersive portrayals, and Seo In-guk, a master of on-screen chemistry, alongside director Kim Jung-shik, recognized for the realistic and distinctive romantic comedies ‘Work Later, Drink Now’ and ‘No Gain No Love.’

The newly released first poster and teaser trailer, meanwhile, unveil the fresh and intriguing concept of ‘Monthly Boyfriend.’ The poster features Mi-rae, deep in thought, next to a checklist diagnosing her current romantic status. This checklist, relatable to modern individuals who find dating cumbersome, along with the tempting tagline “If any of this applies, subscribe now,” aims to spark interest in subscribing to ‘Monthly Boyfriend.’

In the teaser trailer, Mi-rae, who subscribes to ‘Monthly Boyfriend,’ encounters an unimaginable romance fantasy. Scenes like entering a romance webtoon, spring cherry blossoms on campus, and a seaside almost-kiss unfold before her, transforming her mundane world into dream-like dates. The sweet line, “Who will you go on a date with today?” promises new excitement for those who still desire the thrill of romance despite the inconveniences of dating.

Jisoo, who promises a realistic portrayal as Mi-rae, explains ‘Monthly Boyfriend’ as “a story where Mi-rae, who desires love and dopamine but struggles with real-life issues, gradually grows. It’s a lively romantic comedy with diverse visuals designed to vicariously satisfy viewers’ yearning for excitement.
