Singer Rain has expressed interest in taking on a musical.
On February 5, a video titled “Today’s Old Stories Will Stay On Your Mind Before Bed (ft. Kim Junsu, Jung Sung-hwa)” was uploaded on the YouTube channel ‘Season B Season.’
The video featured musical actors Kim Junsu and Jung Sung-hwa, who are currently performing in the musical ‘Beetlejuice,’ as guests.
Rain asked them, “Is this the ‘Beetlejuice’ I saw when I was young?” Jung Sung-hwa replied, “Yes, it’s a film directed by Tim Burton. The stage setup is quite unique; it’s very Tim Burton-like,” he explained.
Rain then inquired, “Honestly, with your ticket power, wouldn’t it be a guaranteed sell-out regardless of promotion?” Jung Sung-hwa replied, “We also expected it to be,” sharing a laugh.
During the show, Jung Sung-hwa complimented Rain, saying, “You could do really well in musicals; you act well and sing well.” Rain responded, “I’ve received many offers for musicals,” but explained, “I wanted to do it, but I just didn’t have the capacity.”
Rain further commented, “A musical is a team effort. You have to practice very consistently, and I don’t have the confidence for that,” citing his ever-changing schedule.
Kim Junsu added, “In fact, even when we practice, we have to clear our schedules a lot.”
When Rain noted, “I almost can’t do any other schedules,” Jung Sung-hwa agreed, “It’s not just about being good on your own; the synergy with the other actors is important.”
Later, Jung Sung-hwa asked, “If Ji-hoon were to do a musical, is there any role you’ve wanted to try among the works you’ve seen?” Rain answered, “The role first played by veteran actor Cho Seung-woo, ‘Jekyll & Hyde.'”
Kim Junsu then suggested, “There’s one that hasn’t been staged in Korea yet but came to mind suddenly—’MJ,'” recommending the musical about the life of the global pop star Michael Jackson.
Jung Sung-hwa also agreed, “It really suits you,” and Rain expressed his interest, saying, “I want to try it once. I really want to tell the story of Michael Jackson.”
