K-pop sensation BTS’s fifth studio album, ‘Arirang,’ demonstrated its impact as a full-group comeback, achieving overwhelming sales figures immediately after its release.
Hanteo Chart, the world’s only real-time music chart operated by Hanteo Global, reported that BTS’s ‘Arirang,’ released on the 20th, sold 3.98 million copies on its first day, topping the daily chart.
The album astonished many by surpassing one million copies sold within just 10 minutes of release, achieving million-seller status. On the same day, it notably broke the previous first-week sales record of ‘Map of the Soul: 7’ (3.37 million copies), setting a new career high for the group.
Typically, initial sales are tabulated over a full week following release, but ‘Arirang’ surpassed existing records in less than a day.
This immediate purchase reaction, exceeding mere anticipation, illustrates the album’s massive market response following a long hiatus.
Remarkably, within three days of release, ‘Arirang’ surpassed 4 million copies in cumulative sales, securing the top spot on the Hanteo daily chart for three consecutive days and also topping the weekly chart.

Album sales are intertwined with the symbolism of performances. BTS visually emphasized the significance of their return through their Gwanghwamun performance, and Hanteo Chart’s data confirmed that this symbolism translated into actual sales and industry metrics. If the Gwanghwamun stage created a ‘return scene,’ the sales data demonstrate how strongly that scene resonated with the market.
Thus, ‘Arirang’s success is viewed not merely as commercial success but as proof of BTS’s enduring ability to simultaneously influence the global fandom and domestic album market as a mega-group.
This achievement provides insight into the current state of the K-pop album market, demonstrating BTS’s enduring power in physical album sales even in an era dominated by streaming. This indicates the continued robust operation of the K-pop industry structure, which combines fan culture, collectible consumption, global distribution networks, and album version strategies.
Ultimately, the sales figures for ‘Arirang’ offer an opportunity to once again grasp the scale and operational dynamics of the K-pop market’s top tier.
Meanwhile, Hanteo Chart plans to release a data report on BTS’s 10-year history on the 27th.
