Actor Hyun Bin is set to return in his first OTT original series, ‘Made in Korea,’ premiering globally this Christmas Eve.
Disney+’s ‘Made in Korea’ is set in 1970s South Korea, a period of both turmoil and growth. The series follows Baek Ki-tae (played by Hyun Bin), a man aiming to reach the pinnacle of wealth and power by making the state a profit model, and Prosecutor Jang Gun-young (played by Jung Woo-sung), who relentlessly pursues him with fierce determination. Hyun Bin plays Baek Ki-tae, an ambitious department head at the Central Intelligence Agency, as he faces monumental events of the era.
This marks a new challenge for Hyun Bin, celebrating his 21st year in his acting career, and promises an unprecedented character transformation. Here are three key points to watch in ‘Made in Korea.’
#Hyun Bin’s Noir Transformation, Master of Ambition
In a previous interview, Hyun Bin described Baek Ki-tae as “the character with the most direct expression of desire since my debut.” True to this, Baek Ki-tae is a dual character who maintains his power as a Central Intelligence Agency agent by day and expands his influence through smuggling by night. Known for his unique image in romance dramas, Hyun Bin now delivers a weighty narrative, showcasing a new persona through historical and noir genres.
#The Winning Combination: Pomade and Suit Charisma
Hyun Bin meticulously adjusted his physique and styling to embody the essence of a Central Intelligence Agency agent. The precisely styled pomade hair, solid build, and sharp suit silhouette maximize his cold charisma, completing Baek Ki-tae’s imposing presence. Ironically, this cold styling accentuates his classic handsome features, amplifying the character’s complexity and charm. The styling featured in the six-episode series is also highly anticipated.
#The Spectrum of Relationships with Various Characters
Hyun Bin has showcased a wide range of chemistry, spanning romance and bromance, in his works. In this series, he is set to form complex relationships with characters such as his intense rivalry with Jang Gun-young, brotherly bonds with Baek Ki-hyun (played by Woo Do-hwan), and strategic alliances with Ikeda Yuji (played by Won Ji-an). The narrative with each character impacts Baek Ki-tae’s choices, and how Hyun Bin conveys emotional nuance is a key point to watch.
Capturing Hyun Bin’s continuous challenges and transformations, ‘Made in Korea’ is set for a global premiere on Disney+ this Christmas Eve.
