NewJeans’ ‘OMG’ Breaks Records, Becomes First Song to Surpass 900 Million Spotify Streams Amidst Danielle’s Contract Termination

NewJeans 'OMG' 900 million streams

NewJeans’ ‘OMG’ has surpassed 900 million streams on global audio streaming platform Spotify, according to Xportsnews.

Spotify reported on the 16th that NewJeans’ single ‘OMG’ and its title track had accumulated 901,364,493 streams as of the 14th. The song, which surpassed 800 million streams in March of last year, added another 100 million in just 10 months, demonstrating its enduring global impact.

‘OMG’ is a hip-hop R&B track with a mix of UK garage and trap rhythms. The track’s point choreography, featuring hands on the head and nodding in sync with the lyrics “Oh my oh my God,” combines with an upbeat melody to create a catchy, well-received appeal.

Released in January 2023, ‘OMG’ peaked at 74th on the U.S. Billboard ‘Hot 100’ and remained on the chart for six weeks, setting a remarkable record for a K-pop rookie song at the time. It also achieved 10th on the Billboard ‘Global 200’ and 7th on Billboard Japan ‘Hot 100,’ showcasing significant achievements across global charts. Along with ‘Ditto’ from the same album, it dominated major domestic and international charts for an extended period, establishing itself as a hit song of the year.

NewJeans has released a total of 15 songs, including ‘OMG,’ that have surpassed hundreds of millions of streams on Spotify. ‘Super Shy’ and ‘Ditto’ achieved over 800 million streams, ‘Hype Boy’ over 700 million, ‘Attention’ over 500 million, ‘New Jeans’ and ‘ETA’ over 400 million, ‘Cookie’ over 300 million, and ‘Hurt,’ ‘Cool With You,’ ‘How Sweet,’ and ‘Supernatural’ over 200 million. Additionally, ‘ASAP,’ ‘Get Up,’ and ‘Bubble Gum’ each surpassed 100 million streams. The total cumulative streams of all NewJeans’ songs on Spotify have exceeded 7.2 billion.

Meanwhile, the status of the members has shifted following a loss in the contract validity confirmation lawsuit. Haerin and Hyein have expressed their intention to return, and Hanni has confirmed her return. Minji is still in discussions, while Danielle is the only member who received a termination notice for her exclusive contract.
