Actress Hae Ye-rin expressed her affection for her grandmother, Son Sook.
On the afternoon of the 4th, a press conference for Netflix’s ‘Bridgerton’ Season 4 was held at Community House Masil in Myeong-dong, Seoul, attended by actress Hae Ye-rin.
‘Bridgerton 4’ is a romantic series exploring the boundaries of love, identity, and class, following Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson), a free spirit indifferent to marriage, and Sophie Beck (Hae Ye-rin), a maid in real life and the ‘woman in the silver dress’ he meets at a masquerade.
Hae Ye-rin, a Korean-Australian actress active in the U.S., gained domestic recognition as the granddaughter of Son Sook. Son Sook has mentioned Hae Ye-rin on several broadcasts, saying, “I’ve watched her performances, and she does quite well. I think she’s better than me.”
Hae Ye-rin stated, “Grandmother didn’t offer any special advice about acting.” She added, “She watched all of ‘Bridgerton 4’ and sent many pictures; I think she watched it with her juniors.”
She continued, “My grandmother’s eyesight isn’t good. She watched the TV up close and sent a text saying, ‘I’m proud, I love you,’ which warmed my heart and made me a bit emotional. However, my grandmother also saw the embarrassing scenes this morning and said they were awkward. I thought she’d skip them, but she watched everything.”
Hae Ye-rin previously revealed that she began dreaming of becoming an actress after watching Son Sook’s performances. “I try to visit Korea about once a year,” she said. “I watched my grandmother performing plays, and though I can’t remember the title, I vividly remember her doing a one-person play.”
She continued, “I felt the ‘power of art’ when audiences cried. I thought it was amazing that a profession could offer solace and empathy through theater. I was greatly inspired from then on,” crediting Son Sook with influencing her career.
Son Sook, who is currently meeting audiences with the play ‘An Old Man’s Dream,’ mentioned that Hae Ye-rin will soon watch the play. “I have to go before leaving Korea on Friday,” Hae Ye-rin stated.
“I met my grandmother this morning,” she added. “She told me I used to be ‘Son Sook’s granddaughter Hae Ye-rin,’ but now it’s ‘Hae Ye-rin’s grandmother Son Sook.’ It made me both emotional and proud,” she said with a smile. “My grandmother also said she has no regrets now and it’s okay if she passes away tomorrow.”
‘Bridgerton 4’ is now streaming on Netflix.
